So Hideous My Love: Live at Lit Lounge 6.21.10

Hey Kids:

My band So Hideous My Love is playing Lit Lounge here in NYC on 6.21. For some reason we're not listed, but we're on first, around 9:30. It's our first show with our new vocalist and it's gonna be a good time.

Come hear.

Lit is at 93 Second Ave, between 5th and 6th Street. Isle of Manhattan.

Free So Hideous My Love ep download

So, on the open disclosure tip: This is my band.

Not in the "I founded and write all the stuff" end of things, but we've been together for a couple years now and have quite a canon of material. We've played (and will continue to play) out around NYC and beyond to good sized turnouts. This past Fall we went into the studio with our dear friend Dave Baltunois at his Wild Arctic Studios (what's up Leroy!) and came out with these three tracks. We've decided to call the EP I Balance A Daydream On The Edge Of A Knife and offer it to you all for free. We'd like to think we are in the same vein as Mono, Envy and Heaven In Her Arms. For the uninitiated, at it's basest form So Hideous My Love is essentially loud classical music with alternately guttural and clean vocals. There are strings and orchestration, but we will not hesitate to break it down on your fool ass if we deem it so necessary. If I may indulge in a rare moment of immodesty, we are good at what we do.

Download I Balance A Daydream On The Edge Of A Knife here. Do feel free to flame or pass around the link or mp3s as you see fit.

Live: OnPoint at Karma Lounge 10.26.9

Despite the less than ideal environs, OnPoint rocked the hell out of the Karma Lounge basement the other night. I've been tied up in So Hideous mixing and hating my job, so apologies to the OnPoint kids (and their rabid fans) for the lack of timely coverage.

Evidently, the people booking Karma are/were looking to expand their demographic a little bit by bringing in Team OP. Not sure how the not-especially-good opening singer-songwriter dude felt, but it sure brought more people in the room than the maybe one person who might have been there to see them. He did win over the guy whose job for the night seemed to be to play incidental cocktail jazz for 2 to 5 minutes between sets and then be in the way of everybody loading in, which may have been a small consolation.

OnPoint followed the songwriter guy and pretty much killed it. Olga sure can sing (and is far from un-easy on the eyes). Paired with Dylan and Matt, it's a good time. They need to get some recordings out, but in the interim they have added a bass player. He played on the last three or four tracks on the set, firing the already excited crowd up into the most spirited display of headbanging I've seen in some time. Keep up on the integration of the new guy in the franchise and hear about upcoming shows at the OnPoint web presence here. Watch out for the robots.

Taking L's

Hey Kids:

It's been quite a week over at JS-NYC. Suffice to say that the heady odor of misanthropy that one can enjoy whenever you drop by JS-NYC HQ will not be dissipating anytime soon. While I take some personal L's, go on over to one of my new favorite blogs and enjoy some commentary over at Taking L's. Tarantino and Rob Zombie fans might do well to proceed with caution.
